The Williamsburg AIDS Network was founded in 1990 as a grassroots, volunteer organization to address the impact of HIV/AIDS on the Greater Williamsburg area. The organization was incorporated and received its 501(C)3 nonprofit status in 1994. Services were provided solely by volunteers until 1996 when the first client services coordinator was hired with funds from Ryan White Title II. In 1997, the Board of Directors created the position of Executive Director, and in 1998 WAN hired an HIV Prevention Education Coordinator. WAN provides comprehensive services to individuals infected with HIV and their families/friends. Persons of all demographic backgrounds are welcome. The Williamsburg AIDS Network is known for providing excellent services to clients and for having strong HIV prevention and HIV counseling and testing programs.
