GOLES was founded in 1977 and works to mitigate the housing crisis plaguing the Lower East Side where long-time and low-income, predominantly Latino and Asian immigrant tenants, are facing evictions and homelessness due to skyrocketing rents. Many of these tenants are unaware of their rights and are, thus, exploited by their landlords who routinely deny them services.
