Community action agency for Bethel, Bridgewater, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding and Ridgefield provides services for disadvantaged people and families to promote self-sufficiency and economic independence. Special services and programs include housing mediation, after school activities, Action Early Learning Center, Individual Development Accounts, holiday assistance, a food pantry, an eviction prevention program and energy assistance.See separate listing for Community Action Committee of Danbury - Energy Assistance Program. Elegibility:Resident of Bethel, Bridgewater, Brookfield, Canaan, Cornwall, Danbury, Kent, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, North Canaan, Redding, Ridgefield, Roxbury, Salisbury, Sharon, Sherman, Warren, Washington who are experiencing a non-recurring, unexpected, documentable hardship; At risk of eviction or foreclosure; Must have income; Income must be at or below 60% of the state median income; Monthly rent/mortgage cannot exceed 60% of gross monthly income; Must be able to pay the next month s rent; Other restrictions may apply. HPRP provides funding to assist families and individuals who are at imminent risk of homelessness. Must be "imminently at risk of becoming literally homeless within the next 6-15 days":*Being evicted within 6-15 days from private dwelling (own home, or family/friend s home), OR*Being discharged from an institution in which the person has been a resident for more than 30 consecutive days, OR*Living in housing that has been condemned by housing officials and is no longer considered habitable, OR*Fleeing a domestic violence housing situation. IN ADDITION TO ONE OF THE ABOVE:*No appropriate housing options have been identified, and*The person lacks the financial resources and support networks needed to obtain immediate housing or remain in their existing housing.NOTE: If literally homeless or imminently homelessness (within 5 days), refer to homeless shelter. Resident of Bethel, Bridgewater, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Newtown, Redding and Ridgefield; Under 200% FPL; Crisis situation and at risk for eviction Hours of operation:M-F: 9am-5pm By appointment; Cannot apply more than once in any 18 month period
